Vacation with my Mother, Dad and sister Mary Ann - Year is 1970

This Video was created almost exactly 50 years ago today. The year was 1970 and I took some vacation time to go with mom and dad on a trip out west with my sister Mary Ann. My dad was Harold Nelson and my mom was Evelyn Nelson. They both died in a car accident in 1984. Mary Ann later married John Haze and then became Mary Haze. Mary died in 2018. The movies were taken using my brothers new Super 8 movie Camera. In those days, there wasn’t any sound so this is pure video. In all, I took eleven 50-foot reals of movies. I only have seen these no more than 2 or 3 times since I had to rent a projector in order to view them. Even though, I keep the eleven spools of film not sure what I ever wanted to do with them. Since this is the 50th anniversary of the vacation, I decided to send the film out in an attempt to have it converted to a modern format. This is the result of the conversion. The trip started at my mom & dads’ home in Silver Lake, Wisconsin. From there, the movies travel through: • Fort Randal Dam – South Dakota • Badlands National Park – South Dakota • Black Hills National Forest – South Dakota • Custer State Park – South Dakota • Mt Rushmore – South Dakota • Yellowstone National Park – Wyoming • Grand Tetons National Park – Wyoming • Jackson Hole – Wyoming • Harrisburg – Nebraska (Mom’s Birthplace) • Lincoln – Nebraska • Home Again – Silver Lake Wisconsin Please forgive the video as it was my first attempt at using a video camera. Since I was the one taking the pictures, I do not appear in any of the clips. One last thing, you will see some very impressive Old Cars! Roy Nelson August 27, 2020
