(30 Jun 2020) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: AP CLIENTS ONLY AGENCY POOL - AP CLIENTS ONLY Jerusalem - 30 June 2020 1. United States Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meeting 2. SOUNDBITE (English) Brian Hook, US Special Representative for Iran: "It (Iran) is a danger to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and I have visited these countries on my trip to the Middle East. And they are saying the same thing in a very loud and clear voice to the UN Security Council, that a 13-year arms embargo on Iran must be continued. It cannot expire. And I challenge any country to make the national security argument for letting the arms embargo expire." 3. Cutaway 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister: "The Iranian Revolutionary Guards, led by the arch-terrorist Qassem Soleimani, launched a proxy war against the United States forces and allies in the region. And I can say the plan failed. It failed because the United States refused to be intimidated. And in fact, you took important and courageous decisions to take out Soleimani. And by removing that arch-terrorist, you drew a clear line in the sand, a line that was etched in deeds, not in words only." 5. Cutaway of photographer 6. SOUNDBITE (English) Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister: "Brian (Hook), in response to the repeated Iranian provocations and violations, you have taken important actions and I believe it is time to implement now, snapback sanctions. I don't think we can afford to wait. We should not wait for Iran to start its breakout to a nuclear weapon, because when that happens, it will be too late for sanctions. So, my position remains clear. We will do whatever is necessary to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons." 7. Netanyahu and Hook leaving STORYLINE: The United States envoy for Iran said Tuesday an expiring 13-year United Nations weapons embargo on Iran must be continued. "I challenge any country to make the national security argument for letting the arms embargo expire," Brian Hook said during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. The UN arms embargo so far has stopped Iran from purchasing fighter jets, tanks, warships and other weaponry, but has failed to halt its smuggling of weapons into war zones. Despite that, Hook argued both an import and export ban on Tehran must remain in place to secure the wider Mideast. He said that Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain "are saying the same thing in a very loud and clear voice to the UN Security Council." Netanyahu praised the US actions against Iran, saying it is time to implement "snapback sanctions" against the Islamic Republic. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] (ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
