I got tired on some days, I cried, I was in pain, I vomited blood and had stomach secretions. I resorted to God. A human being has no power, but I followed God's signs. I've seen strange things at some point, when I felt weak something strange happened to me like some Israeli women dashing in my room in the hospital and saying: 'We are here to show solidarity with you'. Or some Palestinians, and other godly signs." 4. Close of camera 5. SOUNDBITE (Arabic): Khader Adnan, former Palestinian prisoner and senior member of Islamic Jihad: "I was put on administrative detention for six months, followed by another four months and another four months. My mother became sick and I asked them (the Israelis) to talk to her by phone, but they refused, even though they saw that when she visited me she was lying on a stretcher attached to medical equipment. My kids are growing every day and I wanted to be with them, and I wanted to break the administrative detention." 5. Wide of Adnan speaking to community members 6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic): Khader Adnan, former Palestinian prisoner and senior member of Islamic Jihad: "The Israeli occupation has no mercy, and doesn't want to see me alive. But they have their practical calculations, they found out that it's better for them to release me than let me continue my strike." 7. Mid of Adnan speaking on phone 8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic): Khader Adnan, former Palestinian prisoner and senior member of Islamic Jihad: "The other inmates had this concern, but I told them I feel that God's mercy is big, and if not I will be a martyr. I told them: 'The last time I won over the state (of Israel); this time if the state wins, it will be a victory over a person who is much weaker, than a victory over a state." 9. Khader Adnan went on hunger strike to protest against his detention. STORYLINE: Khader Adnan is a free man again. The senior member of Islamic Jihad was released by the Israeli authorities on July 12 after being detained for more than a year. It ended a 55-day hunger strike by the Palestinian. "I got tired on some days, I cried, I was in pain, I vomited blood and had stomach secretions. I resorted to God. A human being has no power, but I followed God's signs," Adnan says. The protests, which included a previous 66-day hunger strike, drew attention to Israel's practice of holding Palestinians without trial or charges. "I was put on administrative detention for six months, followed by another four months and another four months," he says. "My mother became sick and I asked them (the Israelis) to talk to her by phone, but they refused, even though they saw that when she visited me she was lying on a stretcher attached to medical equipment. My kids are growing every day and I wanted to be with them," Adnan says. Israel views Islamic Jihad as a "terrorist" organisation. Israel says administrative detentions are an important tool against Palestinian militants.
