CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The man accused killing a woman in a downtown Cincinnati alley appeared in court Friday. William Sanford, 61, is charged with murder. Police say Sanford beat Tracy Hawes, 47, to death on October 5. Her body was found in an alley near Court and Race streets. Officers arrested Sanford on October 12. Investigators have not said what might have led up to the murder. Sanford's attorney asked for a low bond due to his client's health problems. He said Sanford needs treatment at a hospital. Assistant prosecutor David Wood said Sanford spat in the face of an officer while being led to the police car during his arrest. Sandford is also a registered sex offender for a conviction in Butler County. In 2005, police were called to an altercation where they interrupted Sanford beating a woman. He was armed at the time. The judge ordered Sanford held on half million dollars bond.
