Oscarito and Grande Otelo 1949

"CARNAVAL NO FOGO" is a 1949 musical comedy that practically invented the "chanchada" genre, which would become the most popular form of Brazilian cinema of all time. This film contains one of the gems of Brazilian cinema: a parody of the classic balcony scene from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. In the chanchada version, Romeo (Oscarito) and Juliet (Grande Othello) are the two poor, uneducated employees who rehearse the scene to see if they can convince a theater director to hire them for the show that will premiere there. The scene has become one of the most celebrated in the history of Brazilian cinema. Watch it or rewatch it again. It's priceless! Subscribe to our channel    / carlosborges.  .
