/ʌ/ in UK & Ireland

GB English phoneme /ʌ/ has many different pronunciations. In northern English it is entirely replaced phonemically with /ʊ/. In other areas of the UK and Ireland, the sound has different mouth positions, from open, front (cockney) to mid, back and rounded (Ireland).
