3D-Printed Metal Key for S&G 833 Padlock (Medeco Biaxial)

3D-Printed Metal Key for S&G 833 Padlock (Medeco Biaxial)

A friend of mine gave me this padlock (S&G 833 used by US Military) as a present. It is a much sought-after collectors item which, unfortunately, came without any keys. The cylinder is a Medeco Biaxial with rotating pins. So I picked the lock, disassembled it and decoded the cylinder. Then I added support for the Biaxial to AutoKey 3D, my software for generating 3D models of keys using the combination and profile/system data. With that 3D model, I printed a key at home (made of a tough UV resin) and had some success with that, but I thought a brass key would be way cooler and more durable. So I ordered the model in brass and after just a bit of additional filing, the key works just fine as you can see here. I might turn this little story into a blog post when I have some more time.
