In the pre-dawn attack on the Interior Ministry, Hamas minister Said Siyam's office went up in flames when a missile hit on his fourth-floor room. Israel's air force has struck more than 30 targets in Gaza in the past 24 hours, hitting roads, bridges and power plants, in a huge offensive meant to pressure Palestinian militants to release 19-year-old Corporal Gilad Shalit. Shalit was captured on Sunday when Palestinian militants tunnelled under the border, attacking an Israeli outpost and killing two other soldiers. The devastation from overnight Israeli airstrikes in Gaza could be seen on Friday morning, as the offensive entered its third day. Overnight, Israeli aircraft carried out dozens of strikes, hitting the Interior Ministry Fatah offices, Hamas offices and warehouses and roads. A strike at a Hamas facility near the Gaza beach ignited a fire and set off explosives, witnesses said. A cultural centre and a police station were also damaged. Thousands of Israeli troops are massed along the Israel-Gaza border waiting for the go-ahead for a massive invasion into the crowded coastal area. Meanwhile, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said militants had agreed to the terms of an agreement to release Shalit, but Israel had not yet signed on to the proposal. Israeli officials said they did not know of an offer and were not willing to negotiate with the militants, but they have delayed a planned invasion of northern Gaza.
