Protesters clash with police in Sri Lanka, demanding release of student leaders

Hundreds of university students clashed with police in Sri Lanka’s commercial capital Colombo on Friday, demanding the release of two student leaders. President and Minister of Defence Ranil Wickremesinghe imposed a 90-day detention order under the Prevention of Terrorism Act on the Inter-University Students’ Federation Convenor Wasantha Mudalige and the Inter-University Bhikkhus' Federation Convenor Ven. Galwewa Siridhamma Thero. The detention order expired on Thursday. The two convenors played a major role in anti-government protests that led to the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
