TOP SECRET Space Shuttle Mission that Almost Ended in Disaster

On the morning of December 2, 1988 the Space Shuttle Atlantis took off from the Kennedy Space Center on what was designated as mission STS-27. The mission was top secret so not much was known about it's objectives outside of the deployment of a satellite. During the launch, something happened to the spaceship that nearly resulted in it's demise. That, along with a secret spacewalk make this a mission for the record books.
