Story in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind The main storyline in Morrowind begins with a cutscene and character generation. The protagonist—a prisoner born under a certain sign to unknown parents—is sent to the province of Morrowind, to the island of Vvardenfell, where they receive their freedom and a package that must be delivered to Caius Cosades, a resident of the city of Balmora. This concludes the mandatory main quest—the player is free to do with the package and the quest as they wish. The storyline ends with the death of several key characters. The finale of the main storyline in Morrowind is the murder of the antagonist Dagoth Ur, after which the game can continue. Upon completing the first quest, the player is given the opportunity to join the Order of Blades. Their mentor, the head of the order, tasks them with learning as much as possible about the awakening of the Sixth House and the prophecies concerning the Nerevarine. By completing quests, the player discovers that they may be the Nerevarine, the incarnation of the ancient Dunmer hero spoken of in Morrowind legends. By fulfilling some of the prophecies concerning the Nerevarine, the player, either by enlisting Vivec's aid or by killing him, obtains the artifacts necessary to kill Dagoth Ur. Infiltrating Dagoth Ur's citadel, they destroy the Heart of Lorkhan—the source of power for Dagoth Ur and the Tribunal gods—and slay Dagoth, receiving a reward from the goddess Azura.
