Good Samaritan saves Florida mother and 3 children from canal car wreck

A mother is hospitalized, and her three children are recovering after their vehicle flipped into a canal Sunday near Allappattah Road and Minute Maid Road. Officials say the outcome could have been far worse if not for the quick actions of a Good Samaritan who pulled the family from the water. The crash marks the second incident of its kind in Martin County since Friday, highlighting a dangerous trend on local rural roads. Martin County Fire Rescue and Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene to find a Jeep overturned in the canal. A bystander had already successfully rescued the woman and her three children from the submerged vehicle. While the bystander’s actions were heroic, District Fire Chief Joshua Shell issued a word of caution for those who encounter similar scenes. "We want to make sure that people don't, in essence, create a second victim for us," Shell said. "There are hazards such as alligators, sharp metal, and fuel spilling out of the car. There are a lot of hazards that go into these types of calls."
