As voting for 59 assembly constituencies spread across nine districts of Uttar Pradesh began at 7 am on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked voters to exercise their franchise and “strengthen the democracy.” The polling will continue till 6 pm. Among the seats in focus in the fourth phase of elections are Lakhimpur, Rae Bareli and Lucknow. Lakhimpur grabbed national news headlines after eight people, including four farmers, were killed in violence on October 3. In Rae Bareli, considered a Congress bastion, Aditi Singh is contesting for the BJP. She was earlier with the Congress party. In Unnao, the Congress has fielded 55-year-old Asha Singh, the mother of the girl who was allegedly raped by former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. While Sengar is currently in jail, Asha Singh is up against the BJP’s sitting MLA Pankaj Gupta and Dr Abhinav Kumar of the Samajwadi Party. #UPAssemblyElections2022 #UPElections2022 #Lucknow #RaeBareli #Pilibhit
