"It's a great feeling to win again," said US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz as he made his 2023 competitive debut with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Serbia's Laslo Djere at the Argentina Open on Wednesday night. The 19-year-old Spaniard, ranked two in the world, missed last month's Australian Open as a result of a leg injury sustained during his pre-season preparations and lost his number one ranking to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz last competed in October at the Paris Masters, where he was forced to retired with an abdominal tear against Holger Rune in the quarter-finals. Alcaraz's next opponent in Buenos Aires will be another Serbian opponent - Dusan Lajovic - who he will meet in the last eight.
