Hydrogen / Bicarbonate Regulation in the Nephron (PCT, DCT, Collecting Duct) In this lecture we explain how Bicarbonate and Hydrogen ions are reabsorbed or secreted in the different sections of the nephron (Proximal Convoluted Tubule, Type A intercalated cells & Type B intercalated cells of the Collecting Tubules and Duct. We discuss carbonic anhydrase and several transport proteins such as pendrin, sodium potassium pump, and hydrogen ATPase. Failure of these mechanisms lead to acid base disorders and ABG abnormalities. #viralmedicine #acidbase #renalphysiology
