Pakistan, Austria FMs on Afghanistan, Ukraine

(17 Mar 2022) Pakistan's Foreign Minister on Thursday reiterated his call for the resolution of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine through peace talks, saying war wasn't a solution to any problem. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said: "This war will hurt many in different ways. Pakistan is advocating dialogue and diplomacy. Pakistan wants to see the talks between Ukraine and Russia conclude towards a positive outcome." Qureshi made his comments at a news conference in Islamabad, alongside visiting Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schellenberg. Schellenberg arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday to discuss how to improve bilateral trade and economic ties between the two countries. On Ukraine, Schellenberg said: "There is a blatant attack on the international rules-based order we have built up together after the Second World War, and after the fall of the 'iron curtain', and we have to watch out that the new world order that might be developing is still a rules-based order. The world will be more confrontational, and I believe no country can be indifferent to that." Pakistan sent humanitarian assistance to Ukraine this week.
