Third suspect in 9-year-old's fatal shooting sentenced to 15 years in prison

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A third person was sentenced for the death of 9-year-old Alexandrea "Sissy" Thompson Thursday. Chyanne Daniels pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery. Daniels, Azuriah Hoskins, Jahmaria Cruz, and Ke'von Smith pushed their way into the Mt. Auburn home of Alexandrea Thompson, 9, and her family on Jan. 18, 2017. Smith actually pulled the trigger, according to investigators. The assistant prosecutor said they were looking for drugs and counterfeit money. Sissy was asleep on the second floor. Smith grabbed her and put a gun to her head. There was a struggle and Sissy was shot. Daniels became a suspect in an unrelated murder. She confessed to her involvement in Sissy's death. Daniels apologized to Sissy's family. "I absolutely feel terrible about everything although I'm certain it's incomparable to what the victim's family, as well as my own, is currently going through and will continue to go through for a lifetime." Sissy's mother, Amber Caudell told Daniels it's been 967 days since January 18, 2017, when her daughter was killed. She told Daniels she was just as responsible as Smith and that she had the chance to put a stop to what happened. "You could have saved my daughter and your mother would have a hero for a daughter instead of a murderer but you chose the opposite." Cruz was killed before she could be indicted. The other two also took plea deals and have been sentenced. Smith was sentenced to 18 years. Hoskins was one week from his 18th birthday at the time of the shooting. He will be released from juvenile detention in January on his 21st birthday, as long as he doesn't get in trouble while in custody. Sissy's aunt said justice was not served in this case. The assistant prosecutor said there was very little evidence in this case if it went to trial. "One of the sad realities of this situation is nothing we do to this defendant or the other defendants will change what happened to this family and the loss of their child." Judge Elizabeth Callan sentenced Daniels to 15 years in prison. She must also register as a violent offender.
