Severe Weather Awareness Week is underway across the country, and the National Weather Service office is using the week to spotlight a different severe weather threat each day. The week begins with preparedness on Monday, then shifts to wind, hail and lightning on Tuesday. Tornado safety is the focus on Wednesday, followed by flooding on Thursday. By Friday, the emphasis turns to reporting severe weather safely and effectively. Some Big Country residents said the region’s spring weather can be hard to predict. “Oh, you never know what to expect in March. It’s kind of crazy,” one resident said. Others said they rely on designated safe spaces at home when severe weather hits. “Yeah. Oh, yeah. We have a center-like closet that we can go to, pretty centralized. It’s where our pantry is at. It’s pretty spacious, pretty closed off from all the windows. And then we have a storage room as well, which is fully concrete,” another resident said. For some families, preparation includes an even more secure shelter. “We have a bunker with all of the things we need in case of an emergency,” a resident said. Officials said having a plan, supplies and a safe place to go can make a critical difference when severe weather strikes. The National Weather Service is expected to continue posting safety tips throughout the week. DETAILS: https://ktxs.com/news/local/severe-we...
