Please visit us at: www.hkkibc.org Sermon Notes: Philippians 3:10-21 We need to Know the Goal of the Race: Knowing Christ looks like this: A- Knowing the power of His resurrection… B- Participating in His sufferings… B- Becoming like Him in His death… A- Attaining to the resurrection from the dead. I. Understand the Racing Roles: (12 & 14) a. I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me b. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus c. These two verses reveal that God has a role in the race and we have a role in the race: i. God’s role: Handler/Coach ii. Our role: Runner II. Have the right racing strategy: a. Stay Humble b. Forget what is behind: i. Not Glorying in our past ii. Not Wallowing in our past c. Strain toward what is ahead III. Maintain Your Racing Conditioning (15-16) a. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things b. And if anyone thinks differently, God will make it clear to you c. Only let us live up to what we have already attained IV. Follow Good Examples and Reject Bad Ones (17-19) a. Follow Good Examples i. Join with others in following my example, brothers ii. And take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you b. Reject Bad Examples i. For as I have often told you before and now say again with tears ii. Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ iii. Their destiny is destruction iv. Their god is their stomach v. And their glory is in their shame vi. Their mind is on earthly things V. Keep your eyes on the prize (20-21) a. We have to remember that our citizenship is in heaven b. We have to focus on the Savior c. We have to focus on what is going to happen when the Savior comes d. So, we are living for that day
