Christian supremacy, anti-semitism, and the origins of racism. | Sermon 7/26/20

Sarah Ngu explores how white supremacy is intertwined with Christian supremacy and how this is a key example of power and principality. This sermon focusses on how the church's treatment of Jews in the middle ages paved the way for its treatment of Africans and the creation of "race" as we know it today. If we as Christians want to abolish white supremacy and anti-black racism, we have to examine our own house first. We have to recognize that wherever white supremacy, slavery, and colonialism has operated, the Church has, by and large, blessed it, enabled it, participated in it, and set the stage for it in our treatment of Jews, Africans, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, Chinese, etc. White supremacy, is intertwined with Christian supremacy, and that is a power and principality that we Christians have to grapple with. We need to understand that the actions, and inactions, our Christian churches have taken have encouraged the racism and white supremacy we are dealing with -- and working hard to remedy -- today.
