A Plague Tale: Requiem, Is It Possible to Save the Herbalist?

In Chapter 3 of A Plague Tale: Requiem, Amicia and Lucas must find a herbalist and get some nightshade to help with Hugo's tremors before his condition worsens. Unfortunately, the herbalist is found, but not before he is captured by the soldiers of Provence. Is it possible to save the herbalist, or will he always be a casualty? We find out by using a number of ways including killing the soldier, distracting him, or simply continue talking to the herbalist. Will any of these methods help to save his life?
