Dr. Edna Foa talks about how changes in the approach towards treatment have affected the training of new clinicians. How has new research into evidence based therapies changed the training of new clinicians? Luckily, in many universities now, in Ph.D. programs and social work programs, the students do learn evidence based treatments, and they learn to appreciate that what is important is that the patients feel better. PTSD patients will end up being cured, or even if they are not completely cured, the symptoms are ameliorated such that they are not in constant distress in their lives. Dr. Edna Foa is the director at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety.
