This mission takes place on Makin Atoll in the Gilbert Islands, part of the British colony of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands, occupied by Japan since August 17, 1942. It depicts the Raid on Makin Island.The Makin Island raid: The US Marine Corps conducted a two-day raid on Makin Island in the Pacific Ocean. The raid's objectives were to destroy Japanese installations, capture prisoners, and gain intelligence. The raid also boosted morale and tested Raider tactics. High above the beach is the allied target, a Japanese airstrip that when captured can serve as a refueling and rearming point for allied aircraft.
