노동당 창건일 앞둔 北 추가도발 가능성 …朴대통령 북핵대응 집중 North Korea is days away from celebrating a key anniversary and if history is any indication, the regime will mark the date with a major provocation defying international sanctions. Today, activities were spotted at one of North Korea's nuclear test sites. South Korea and the U.S. are monitoring the situation closely and laying out measures in case of another provocation by North Korea. Connie Kim has our top story tonight. The countdown to a key North Korean anniversary -- the founding of the regime's ruling Workers' Party on October 10th -- is nearing, and South Korea's chief executive is reportedly putting all efforts to come up with response measures in case North Korea decides to mark the event with another provocation. An official from Seoul's Presidential Office of Cheong Wa Dae said Friday President Park Geun-hye's top priority is to counter Pyongyang's nuclear program by all means. The president has reportedly been updated on the security situation of the peninsula and is currently monitoring North Korea's movements. She's expected to outline possible bilateral and multilateral measures on the regime if North Korean leader Kim Jong-un conducts another nuclear test or ballistic missile launch. Hinting on the North's possible third nuclear test this year alone,... which will be the sixth overall,…recent satellite imagery taken on October 1st shows activity at all three tunnel complexes at North Korea's Punggyeri nuclear test site. Although the purpose of the activity is unclear,… the recent images show a large vehicle at the North Portal where Pyongyang conducted its most recent nuclear test in September. In addition, a group of people and two small vehicles have also been spotted at two entrances at the South Portal indicating ongoing work or maintenance. Following Pyongyang's second nuclear test this year last month, Seoul has been stressing the North is ready to push the button on another test any time soon. President Park's stance on North Korea's nuclear weapons program has been more stern than ever, calling Kim Jong-un's regime fanatically reckless and that its nuclear ambitions will only lead to its self-destruction. Pyongyang however,... despite unprecedented sanctions against its belligerent behavior, seems to have turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to Seoul and the international community's growing calls to denuclearize and change its ways.
