Diatomaceous Earth vs Fleas Experiment

Diatomaceous Earth vs Fleas Experiment

05/19/2017 Reading online tells me that fleas will die if exposed to Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth for 3-5 hours, so I decided to test this theory for myself. I pulled about 20 of the little buggers out of Buddy's fur before dosing him with Advantage II, which he was quite happy for. So here we have a time lapse which shows them slowing down and eventually coming to a stop over a period of what ended up being over 10 hours... And one or two were actually still somewhat alive at the end of that time, however nowhere near as active. So what this D-Earth supposedly does is, actually cuts through their exoskeletons and literally sucks the moisture out of them, which kills them. I think this has worked alright in my carpet because since about a day after putting down D-E on the carpet, I no longer get jumped while just walking around. Now I just need to do something about the rest of the house. My room is cleared, pretty sure Diva's Advantageous poison took care of what little remained in there... I pulled one or two off her, and I think they were dead to begin with, probably from the Revolution I had previously put on her. But anyway, it was an interesting experiment, with somewhat mixed results... Most of the fleas were dead, but it seemed to me that none of them were in that first 3-5 hours. But that's okay. It only means I need to leave the D-E sitting around longer to fully get the job done.
