Waverly Hills Sanatorium provides unlikely shelter from severe weather

Waverly Hills said the tour guides told the guests stories and kept them entertained until the tornado warning ended and it was safe to leave. The former sanatorium is listed on the National Historic Registry and is known as one of the “most haunted places on earth,” according to its website. The tour guides moved guests into what they call the body chute underneath the building for safety. The body chute is a tunnel leading from the sanatorium.
