January 13 As for me, I am poor and helpless. Help me, O God, you are my protector and liberator. Lord, do not delay any longer. (Psalm 69:6) Once again on the way, we passed by some gigantic constructions, the famous pyramids, many of which, according to the stories we heard from our ancestors, were possibly built by the slave labor of our people. The faith of the Egyptian people is very different from ours, but we were foreigners and were welcomed by these people, so it is not up to us to judge. After coming and going, we arrived at the city of Heliopolis, bathed by the Nile River, where we lived for a long time. This place was constantly being plundered by the Roman Empire, but a small community of Jews welcomed us and set up a house for us; then, work soon began to appear for me. It was in Heliopolis that Jesus grew up, took his first steps and spoke his first words: in the alleys of this village, he ran and played like any other child. There was a beautiful tree near our house, under which Mary spent a lot of time playing with Jesus. Time passed and, thus, we almost forgot about Herod's threat, but the pain of knowing that this was not our place always hung over us: we were just foreigners. Faith is a personal encounter with divinity. It is not up to anyone to judge or even condemn the faith of another. Final Prayer for Every Day of the Novena Prayer to Saint Joseph for My Family God the Father, who, through the work of the Holy Spirit, fertilized the virginal womb of Mary and chose Saint Joseph to be the adoptive father of Jesus and the guardian of the Holy Family, I praise you for your unconditional love for me, for my family, and for all of humanity.
