Russian invasion of Ukraine enters 12th day Monday

러 "키이우·하르키우 등에 인도적 통로 개방" Day 12 of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Scores of civilians killed. We connect to our Kim Ji-yeon standing by on the line. Ji-yeon, Moscow stated it'll hold fire to open humanitarian corridors. Will this promise be kept? That is the big question... and they're expected to be one of the topics between Ukraine and Russia as the two sides are reportedly engaged in a third round of peace talks... right now as we speak. There was skepticism raised by Ukrainian officials which claimed civilian evacuations via these corridors were abruptly halted on Saturday in Mariupol... due to continued shelling by Russian forces. Multiple media outlets, including Reuters, had reported earlier today that the corridors will allow for the evacuation of civilians from four cities Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mariupol and Sumy. All regions that have endured severe attacks from Russian forces. They report that the decision was made following a request by French President Emmanuel Macron to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The corridors are raising hopes that up to four million refugees in Ukraine could leave the country safely... as several cities report deaths and widespread damage. Russian airstrike at the international airport in Ukraine's central region of Vinnytsia had killed nine people according to CNBC. So far, the UN says one-point-five million refugees have fled the country. “It's terrifying to stay in Zaporizhzhia when the air raid sirens are going off. We have to constantly hide in the basement.” Russian forces advancing on Kyiv reportedly fired mortar shells on Sunday near a bridge over the Irpin River that's been used by evacuees to seek cover. That resulted in four civilian deaths,... including two children. The New York Times reports that Ukrainian forces had earlier blown up a damaged bridge near the river to slow the Russian advance. Russian troops have already seized the southern cities of Kherson, Melitopol and have surrounded the southeastern city of Mariopul. Earlier Ukraine claimed that around two-thousand civilian lives have been lost due to Russia's invasion of the country. Top diplomats from Ukraine and Russia are slated to hold talks in Turkey this Thursday... and it'll be the highest level meeting between the two sides since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Concerns about a potential nuclear catastrophe were raised yet again... after Russian forces shelled and then took control over a power plant. Yes, that's right. If you remember on Friday, Russia confirmed it had seized the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is the one of the largest reactors in Europe. A fire broke out in the process,... which raised concerns that the war could turn into a catastrophic nuclear disaster. And those fears have been stoked again after IAEA director general Rafael Mariano Grossi said in a statement that Russian forces have switched off some mobile networks and the internet at the plant. He added that this meant that it cannot obtain "reliable information from the site through normal channels of communication,"... confirming that it's started to have major problems in communicating with the plant's Ukrainian staff. But luckily, Grossi said he did confirm that radiation levels of the plant right now is normal.
