Noel Gallagher - Supporting Paul Weller - Live in Wolverhampton, Civic Hall, 6/7/1998

I wanted to do something different. I wanted to tell the story between March 25th, 1998, and December 3rd, 1999. While most people know of the demo's in 1999 and the December warm-up gigs, in July and August of 1998, Noel Gallagher was asked to come and support Paul Weller during his Heavy Soul tour. These gigs feature Noel Gallagher by himself playing acoustics, usually five songs, but some gigs feature very rare gems. There is a rumor that the stadium gigs in 2000 were actually supposed to be played around this July-August time in 1998. I have no idea if those are true. I have no way of proving otherwise either. It's just a rumor. But if they were going to happen, I think they would've played them that year. You'll find quickly that Noel has abandoned Be Here Now. After singing the songs off the album, he says "Well that's the shit ones out of the way." The entire tour was a colossal failure. The tour has taken the wind out of the band and once again they find themselves in Limbo as they did in 1996. What do we do now? Noel's setlist draws similarities from the USA Be Here Now tour with inclusions such as Don't Go Away, To Be Someone, and Help!. An acoustic Don't Look Back In Anger is very well done in my opinion. These small appearances come with the change in times for Oasis. No longer are they the biggest band in the world. Mid 1998 to 1999 would see the most drastic changes in Oasis which would see the band at arguably it's the lowest point ever. Didn't I have a nice time? Wasn't it such a nice time? I can't remember if I had a nice time. To be someone must be a wonderful thing. Setlist: Stand By Me (Cuts In): 0:00 Don't Go Away: 1:56 Wonderwall: 6:09 To Be Someone (The Jam Cover): 10:26 Help!
