Forrest Sawyer presents the story of the 1996 Mt. Everest climbing season, which ended in disaster and death for many of the climbers. This 1998 news magazine concentrates on the IMAX film crew that was filming a documentary of Mt. Everest at the same time a storm hit high up on Mt. Everest on May 10, 1996, stranding many climbers in the Death Zone. Some climbers did not make it down alive. Rescue climbers, including from the IMAX film crew, rescued other climbers from the top of the world.
