This quick video shows owners of Bryant HVAC natural gas furnace units the location of the electrode flame sensor. (It is equipped with one white wire. Don't confuse it with the hot surface ignitor which as two white wires.) The main symptom of a faulty flame sensor is that your furnace will not continue running after about 5, 10 or 30 seconds. If the sensor does not detect a flame, the control board will shut down the furnace to prevent from having natural gas continue to flow into the heat exchanger. It's very easy to replace the flame sensor since it is just held in one with one screw. If it looks dirty (covered in soot or debris), gently clean it with some sandpaper, steel wool or emery cloth. If the sensor looks cracked or damage, replace it.
