Gervonta Davis SURPRISED WITH HIS ACTUAL CONDITION BEFORE THE FIGHT WITH Ryan Garcia Devin Haney 2 Hearn: Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia is a Massive Fight This past Saturday night, Ryan Garcia continued his unbeaten run with a five round destruction of former world champion Javier Fortuna. Following the win, Garcia called for a showdown with another unbeaten star, Gervonta "Tank" Davis. However, there are many issues that would have to be solved in order to make such a fight. Garcia is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, who have an exclusive content deal with streaming service DAZN. On the other side, Davis is tied to Premier Boxing Champions, who have content deals with Showtime and Fox Sports. Showtime is primarily the broadcaster of Davis' bouts - and while they are very interested in making that fight, they have no interest in having a joint pay-per-view event with DAZN. And Golden Boy has no interest in making the fight without the involvement of DAZN. Promoter Eddie Hearn, who also has an exclusive content deal with DAZN, would like to see the fight with Davis take place. "[Ryan Garcia vs. Gervonta Davis] is a massive fight," Hearn said on The DAZN Boxing Show. "It's two different fan bases. It's just such a great mix of styles, of personalities, narrative. I hope those guys can get it made. I really do. I think Ryan will take that fight. I don't see why Gervonta Davis wouldn't want to take that fight. I'm sure he thinks he beats Ryan Garcia convincingly. So hopefully, everyone involved can make that happen." And now there's the issue of the weight. The bout with Fortuna was held at the junior welterweight limit of 140-pounds. According to Garcia, he has no intention of returning to the lightweight limit. Davis competed once at 140, back in 2021, with a stoppage of Mario Barrios. Following that win, he moved down to 135. Garcia has a large frame and it's unlikely Davis' handlers would provide him with a weight advantage by agreeing to fight at 140. A catch-weight is likely needed. "I think we all know realistically, Tank probably makes 135 quite comfortably if he does it properly," Hearn said. "I don't think it really matters. I mean, you're getting to a stage now where some of those fights, belts are irrelevant. And actually, Tank against Ryan Garcia, I don't care if it's at 136, 7,8, 9, 40. Like whatever. It's just a really good fight. I don't see why that fight shouldn't be made." Boxing stars Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis have teased a fight with one another before the end of the year. The lightweight division is perhaps one of the most intriguing in all of boxing, and that’s certainly the case when it comes to star power. From champions to contenders and beyond, a whole host of names are lining up to try and become the next big thing inside the squared circle. Two men who fit into that category are Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis Between them, they’ve won 50 professional fights and have no defeats to their name, with both impressing in a big way in their most recent outings. ‘King’ Ryan was back in the ring this past weekend as he went head to head with Javier Fortuna in Los Angeles. After almost six rounds, Garcia managed to put the former champ away with a nice TKO success to secure the 19th finish of his pro career. He’s made no secret of the fact that he wants to fight Davis in the past and immediately after the contest came to an end, he wanted the world to know that his rival was still on his mind. “If he wants it, let’s get it,” Garcia said. “That’s going to give me the respect I deserve.” “100% I felt way better [weighing 140 pounds], I’m not going back to 135 for nothing, but I want Tank next,” Garcia said during his post fight interview. “I’m never afraid, I have a spirit of competition. You’re going to see that when I fight Tank.” In a short but simple response to Garcia’s performance, Davis had the following to say on social media. “See y’all the end of the year..#TheONE” The threat of Tank Gervonta Davis isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it’s hard to ignore what he can do in a boxing ring. The 27-year-old currently holds the WBA (Regular) lightweight title and in his last fight, he settled the score with foe Rolando Romero in Brooklyn. Romero was doing some nice work throughout the early stages of the contest but ultimately, it was ‘Tank’ who landed the final blow in the form of a devastating TKO that showed the masses exactly what he’s capable of.
