Kimberly asked us here at VitaTree about balancing blood sugar levels; Dr. Bowring explains the top 7 tips on how to treat and lower blood glucose levels and how to find that balance. Number one tip on how to lower blood sugar levels is to avoid the spikes in your blood glucose levels, keep an eye on your carbohydrate intake, it is always the sugars that spike your insulin levels, this can also assist with weight loss and help maintain a healthy balance. Balancing your carbs throughout the day with proteins and healthy fats. A balanced diet throughout the day helps to stabilize the blood glucose levels so that you do not have those rapid spikes. That is when the blood sugar can drop; low blood sugar can make you feel not so well. Number two, eating more often helps to avoid those spikes, by eating your food often through out the day you are going to avoid those dips in your blood sugar level. Eating every 2-3 hours is the time period Dr. Bowring recommends. Number three, eat eggs, incorporate eggs daily into your diet, they are a great source of protein but also helps to stabilize blood glucose levels and keep you feeling full. When your blood glucose is all over the place, you can get hungry very easily, therefore having some eggs are a food to incorporate daily. Number four, avocados, this yummy food has natural healthy fats, this will help keep you full and help that insulin steady throughout the day. Incorporate delicious avocados in your daily diet. Number five, cinnamon, a fantastic delicious spice that helps to increase that ability for your insulin to have sensitivity. This means that allowing that glucose to get into the cells and be used up therefore not floating around in your blood stream. Sprinkling a little bit of cinnamon in your coffee, or on your foods is a great way to stabilize your blood sugar levels. Number six, berries, not only are they a potent superfood antioxidant, but the also contain anthocyanins which help to regulate your insulin production. In order to produce good amounts of insulin we have to make sure we have anthocyanins, eating fresh berries daily will help with this. Berries are lower on the glycemic index meaning they do not spike your insulin levels therefore, you are able to intake all of the benefits and intake important protective antioxidants to fight those free radicals, all of that goodness with help from the berries! Berries also contain fiber, which is fantastic with regulating blood glucose. Number seven, exercise daily is important, this helps with regulating your metabolism, helps to burn off the sugars, and helps to burn off excess body weight.
