SHARK SIGHTING, KEY LARGO REEF, GRECIAN ROCKS, March 2018

A quick ‘Highlights’ vid of a recent dive at Grecian Rocks reef, about five miles south of Key Largo (GPS:25 07.840N/80 18.312W; Depth 5 - 25 feet), part of the protected John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Includes a peaceful encounter with a 7-foot Reef Shark (at minute 0:45) but watch the whole thing; it’s only a minute and you’ll see some beautiful reef! Some of the fish (in order of appearance): *Parrotfish - Rainbow, Midnight *Tangs *Stoplight Parrotfish *Smooth Trunkfish *Spiny Lobster *Gray Angelfish *Great Barracuda (at cleaning station) *Shark (I was told it was likely a Bull but I think it looks more like a Blacktip by the tail) March 18, 2018 “Just swam with this 6 - 8 foot shark. As I came upon the first coral heads at the edge of the reef I saw the shark move - so it had seen me first - and judged that it was about ten meters away. By the time I’d turned the GoPro on and pointed it in the right direction, the shark had effortlessly put another ten meters between us with a few flicks of its tail. I tried to follow but with the strong current I made little headway and didn’t want to disturb the fish by struggling. Visibility was about 30 meters and that is why the vid is kind of blurry. But it was an epic day snorkeling and I was so grateful to have seen the shark as it nonchalantly swam off into deeper water. It was a thrill to experience this among other incredible moments today at Grecian Rocks reef, six miles offshore Key Largo. Shot on my GoPro Hero5.” ~~~~~~~~~
