First Reading Reading from the prophecy of Zechariah 8:20-23: "Thus says the Lord of hosts: Nations and great men of cities will come. And the inhabitants of one will go and say to those of the other, "Let us go up to appease the Lord; I too will go to behold the Lord of the universe. And many peoples will come, mighty nations will come, seeking the Lord of the universe in Jerusalem and wanting to appease the Lord." "This is what the Lord of the universe says: In those days, ten men of different languages from among the nations will take hold of the garment of a Jew, saying, 'We want to go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.'" Today's Psalm Psalm 86:1-3, 4-5, 6-7 R/. God is with us He has founded it on the holy mountain; and the Lord prefers the gates of Zion to all the dwellings of Jacob. What a glorious proclamation for you, city of God! R/. "I will count Egypt and Babylon among my faithful ones; Philistines, Tyrians, and Ethiopians were born there." It will be said of Zion: "One by one, all were born in it; the Most High himself founded it." R/. The Lord will write in the register of the nations: "This one was born there." And they will sing as they dance: "All my springs are in you." R/. Gospel of the day Reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 9:51-56 When the days for his taking up to heaven were fulfilled, Jesus resolved to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way, they entered a village of Samaritans to make preparations. But they did not receive him, because his appearance was that of one traveling toward Jerusalem. When his disciples James and John saw this, they said to him, "Lord, do you want us to summon fire from heaven to destroy them?" He turned and rebuked them. And they went to another village.
