Cardiovascular Disease Prevention – Innovations in Healthcare Inequalities Programme.

Cardiovascular Disease Prevention – Innovations in Healthcare Inequalities Programme.

Tune in to CVFM Radio as I, Idrees Rashid, had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Joe Chidanyika, National Programme Manager at the Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria. We delved into the groundbreaking Cardiovascular Disease Prevention – Innovations in Healthcare Inequalities Programme. The Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria plays a vital role in accelerating innovation to enhance both health outcomes and the regional economy. They collaborate closely with the NENC ICS, NHS Trusts, and Universities, aiding them in identifying, evaluating, and adopting transformative innovations. They are also a key resource for industries seeking to tap into the NHS's expertise for the development, testing, and deployment of life-changing products and services. Dr. Chidanyika sheds light on the Innovation for Healthcare Inequalities Programme, spearheaded by NHS England. The program aims to address healthcare disparities faced by marginalised and under-served populations. Across the country, project teams comprised of clinical and non-clinical experts are working hand-in-hand with local communities to identify, tackle, and minimise these inequalities. Their focus lies on five priority clinical areas: maternity, mental health, respiratory, cancer diagnosis, and cardiovascular disease. Nationally, £4.2 million has been allocated to support this program and fund eligible projects throughout England. These projects have been meticulously crafted by local teams, ensuring that the most vulnerable within their regions benefit from this investment. Crucially, the projects are guided by the voices of local communities, truly making it a collaborative effort. NHS England's InHIP program is an extraordinary collaboration between the Accelerated Access Collaborative (AAC), NHS England's National Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Programme, and the Academic Health Science Network (AHSN). This partnership, working alongside integrated care systems (ICSs), builds upon the accomplishments and knowledge gleaned from improving access to healthcare innovations for the wider population.
