Paper Hands vs Diamond Hands - A Boomers Guide To WSB Lingo | Coffee With Markus | Special Episode To get the transcript and MP3, go to: https://www.rockwelltrading.com/coffe... This special episode is for us: The “older people”: The Boomers, The Gen X, … well basically everybody above 40. It’s been such a crazy week. There has just been insane volume and insane volatility on GME, AMC, BB, SLV, … and most of it has been at the hands of the WallStreetBets crowd. And it’s really easy to get overwhelmed with what exactly these folks are saying on the WSB forum -- tendies, YOLO, boomer! So, today, I want to help you cut through the noise and define some of the terms you might be seeing on WSB. Before I do this, let’s take a minute to recap what’s been going on. WallStreetBets is a popular forum on Reddit with millions of followers. They now have over 8 million followers -- up from around 2 million at the beginning of last week. And they decided to go after hedge funds, especially short-sellers, and chose a few heavily shorted stocks as targets and drove prices up. Ultimately, the short-sellers -- the ones who were mocking the “small account traders” -- had to close their positions at a massive loss. Anyhow… you might have been peeking into the WallStreetBets Forum to see what’s going on, and you might be confused by all the terms they are using. So here are the 10 common terms you’ll see on the WSB forum, and I’ll explain what they mean. 1. Stonks. “Stonks” started as a meme a few years back, and was used in reaction to what others thought were bad trading choices. On WSB, it’s used as more of a general term for stocks they might be trading. 2. A newbie is a rookie trader. Someone who is new to trading. 3. Boomer. Boomer is what the WSB crowd uses to describe an older person. Somebody actually called me a boomer! Am I really a “boomer” at 51 years old? Hey, I’m Gen X! 4. Bagholders are traders who have taken a heavy loss on a stock. In other words, they’re left holding the bag. 5. Tendies are profits a trader makes off a stock. Traders also use the chicken or drumstick emojis when they’re talking about “tendies.” 6. YOLO is short for “you only live once.”. 7. When you see someone mention “diamond hands,” it means they’re holding their position - no matter what - even when suffering through some drawdowns. The diamond and hand emojis are also used to reference “diamond hands.” 8. Paper hands is someone who is getting nervous and sells their position instead of holding it. 9. Apes and degenerates are what WSB members call each other. You’ll see things like “Apes stay strong” or “I’m glad I’m here with you degenerates” meaning they’re in this together. 10. To the moon. This is their “profit target” - which is fairly wide open. For GME, “To The Moon” was defined as a target of $1,000, which really seems to be “to the moon”. Traders also use the rocket ship emoji to reference “to the moon.” These are the Top 10. Know any other terms that I should know? If so, leave a comment below. As for me, I’m staying away from these crazy stonks, I mean stocks. They’re fun to watch, but I prefer “SRC Profits.” What does this mean? Systematic, repeatable, and consistent. It might sound boring, but it works very well for me. Just yesterday, I wired my January profits from my trading account into my checking account: it was a little bit over 21,000.
