Keir Starmer is reportedly feeling the heat as Nigel Farage's Reform UK gains momentum in the polls, according to the party's chairman. Zia Yusuf claims that the Labour leader is in a state of alarm, with his party trailing behind the upstart Reform UK by a notable eight points in the latest YouGov survey. Speaking on Sky News' Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips, Yusuf stated, "Starmer is clearly rattled, as he finds himself significantly behind us in the polls. After securing a substantial majority last year, he now faces an eight-point deficit according to the respected YouGov poll." He further expressed the public's frustration, saying, "Citizens are fed up with the apparent lack of funds for British citizens, while there seems to be an endless pot of money available for foreign nationals." This commentary follows a YouGov poll that recently placed Reform UK at 29%, while Labour languishes at 21%. The Conservatives are in third place with 19%, trailed by the Liberal Democrats at 15%, the Greens at 11%, and the SNP at 2%. In a significant speech earlier this week, the Prime Minister took aim at Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, acknowledging him as his primary rival. Yusuf also stood by Reform's ambitious plan to implement cuts in public spending amounting to £300 to £400 billion within their first term. He asserted, "This figure comes from an independent think tank and is well substantiated. We’re talking about the seemingly endless funds allocated to foreign nationals—currently around £5 billion a year and rising for those who enter the country illegally and seek asylum. Additionally, the cost of achieving net zero is estimated to be around £45 billion."
