China and the United States agreed on May 12 to sharply roll back tariffs for 90 days, from an eye-watering US levy of 145 per cent that Trump imposed on his April 2 “Liberation Day”, and down from Chinese levels of 125 per cent. In the interview with Fox News, Trump alluded to a trade agreement potentially being similar to one the US reached with Britain, which he has touted as a model for the kind of “fair” deal he wants from China.
