JOIN BROADCAST PLAZA TODAY, DISCORD'S MEDIA DISCUSSION COMMUNITY — http://bit.ly/S31MA Morning news and weather cut-in, taken during the Today Show on KNTV-TV, the NBC O&O covering the San Francisco Bay Area region of Northern California, based in San Jose and also serving San Francisco and Oakland. This was recorded on Monday, July 5, 2021, the first day channel 11 has implemented the new Look S package making its way to the various NBC O&Os. In an unusual situation, KNTV chose to debut the package on their morning newscast (remember today is technically a holiday, so they likely want to debut at a time few would be watching in order to iron out the kinks; normally stations choose to launch on their noon or 4pm newscasts). I was unable to get their morning opens, but a locally-based YouTuber has posted two poor quality versions if you want to see how they are being used on the actual newscasts. KNTV has retained some elements of Look N (mainly weather graphics) and Look F (the animation in the actual open) for some reason. LA Groove from GrooveWorx also appears to have stayed as music. I have never cared for this station personally. It's always been my least favorite NBC O&O because it's been all over the place with their newscast format and imaging (they have always struggled in the ratings as it only became a full-market station in 2002 after, rather oddly, serving the Monterey-Salinas market from San Jose for most of its history). They have remained fairly stable with talent though and their story selection is pretty good. They've also done some pretty good investigations over the years as well. But there's just something about this station that doesn't bring the same spark as watching a KNBC or WRC and that's lack of heritage in the NBC network that does it in for me.
