The KTLA newsfilm collection at UCLA consists of cut and unedited stories, outtakes and fill footage, originally shot on 16mm reversal film stock with magnetic soundtrack. Some footage, particularly material not used for broadcast, may be without sound. Title: "Addressing the housing crisis in Los Angeles." Date: July 7, 1980. Summary: Coverage of a press conference regarding the housing crisis in Los Angeles in which the current vacancy rate for apartments is less than 1%, while very little is happening in the way of construction. J. Howard Edgerton, chairman of Mayor Bradley’s ad-hoc Committee on Housing speaks about issues covered in the committee’s report, including building smaller units, building more densely to reduce high land costs, and looking at options regarding zoning regulations. Mayor Tom Bradley emphasizes that they must go smaller in order to build more housing for moderate income families. He also notes that the city has cut permit processing time down to from 18 months to 9 months to help encourage construction projects.
