Blue Thunder, an American action drama series, aired on ABC from January 6 to April 16, 1984. Based on the 1983 movie, the series features the advanced Blue Thunder helicopter operated by a four-person LAPD Air Support Division team, partially overseen by the fictional federal agency APEX. The helicopter, a converted Aérospatiale Gazelle, and stock footage from the film were prominently used. A ground unit called "Rolling Thunder" supported the helicopter, featuring a large van and an off-road vehicle. The cast included James Farentino, future SNL star Dana Carvey, and former football players Bubba Smith and Dick Butkus.
