Ting, MD - Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery Game changing fouls, double overtime and thousands of fans is exactly how a bitter taste was left in the Chino Hills players’ mouths after the tough loss to San Ramon Valley for the Division I State Championship. With the state title in grasp, the Huskies’ standout junior Lonzo Ball received his fifth and final foul with 3:18 left in regulation. Ball finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. You would think losing a key player would affect the team but the Chino Hills Huskies continued to put up a fight with the Wolves. Wolves’ Christian Fuca was fouled with 0:40 left in the fourth and sank both free throws to send the game into overtime, 63-63. Humboldt State bound Fuca scored all of his 18 points in the second half, 12 of which were from the outside arc. Just when you thought, it was over, LiAngelo Ball, who scored 23 points, hit a pull up to tie the game once again, 67-67. Add four more minutes back onto the clock for double overtime. These teams were not ready to pack up and go home unless it was with a state title. The Huskies endured the first overtime without UCLA commit Lonzo Ball but that would not last for long as the Wolves took game changing strides towards victory. The Wolves outscored Chino Hills 12-4 in the last overtime. Senior Keith Smith led San Ramon Valley to the promise land with 20 points and eight assists. The final score was 79-71, San Ramon Valley took home their first State Championship.
