The $6.5 billion market cap conglomerate owns the intellectual property rights to a myriad of brands like Barbie, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, UNO, Fisher-Price, and many more. The first collection to feature on the new Mattel Creations Digital Collectibles Marketplace is a series of the Hot Wheels NFT Garage. BlockFi Files Bankruptcy, Binance Bids on Voyager Digital Crypto lenders BlockFi and Voyager Digital continue to make headlines after their financial exposure to the FTX crisis. BlockFi has now filed for bankruptcy and wants it to be known that they are the antithesis of FTX as they are working diligently to return funds to their customers. Voyager Digital on the other hand is needing a new bidder to acquire their company, and Binance confirmed that their U.S. subsidiary Binance.US would be making an offer among other crypto firms. Telegram Announces Decentralized Crypto Exchanges and Wallets In response to the recent FTX turmoil, Telegram’s founder and CEO Pavel Durov revealed that Telegram will be building decentralized crypto exchanges and non-custodial crypto wallets. Durov plans to build a set of decentralized tools for Telegram as he believes that blockchain-based projects should be decentralized, and crypto users should use self-hosted wallets without third-party interference. Economy News Record High Black Friday & Cyber Monday Consumer Turnout This past Black Friday weekend saw a record number of holiday shoppers with an increase of 2.3% higher sales over last year and a 5.8% increase on Cyber Monday from the previous year. A significant increase in shopper turnout could be a positive economic sign that consumers are not halting their demand despite rising interest rates and inflation. Fed Chair Jerome Powell Hints at Lower Rate Hikes This past Wednesday, Powell stated that the pace of interest rate hikes would be moderated as soon as the Fed’s December meeting. The next increase is expected to be half a percentage point, bringing the rate range to 4.25%-4.50%. Gas Prices The national average for gas has had a significant decline since the Thanksgiving holiday and is currently around $3.42 a gallon. Prices have continued to fall with increasing supply, and consumer demand has remained steady. National average numbers are now below prices when Russia invaded Ukraine, a consequential event that drove prices up globally earlier this year. Unemployment Rate Newly released unemployment data on Friday showed that the rate was unchanged from the previous month at 3.7%. The month of November also saw 263,000 new jobs added. Bitcoin/Crypto Adoption JPMorgan Chase Registers Crypto Wallet Trademark America’s largest banking company, JPMorgan Chase, has officially registered and patented a cryptocurrency wallet called the “J.P. Morgan Wallet” under the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Brazil Legalizes Crypto as a Payment Method Brazil has passed a law that legalizes crypto payments in the entire country. The bill is awaiting signature from Brazil’s president and does not establish cryptocurrencies as legal tender, but it does contain other key factors. Dominica Issues World’s First National Crypto Coin The Caribbean island of Dominica has announced the world’s very first national coin in a partnership with crypto exchange Huobi and crypto billionaire Justin Sun’s blockchain Tron Network. The Dominica Coin or DMC will be recognized as a means of payment within the country and issuance of DMC is endorsed and authorized by the government of Dominica.
