German Hornet and Yellow Jacket eating a Cicada
July 04 2009 in Georgia: I kept seeing German Hornets catching Cicadas in flight and stinging them as the Cicada chatters and flutters to the ground.This German Hornet had just caught a Cicada and started to bite into it with its powerful jaws.A Yellow Jacket which is about the size of a Honey Bee tries to scavenge small pieces like a Hyena aggravating a Lion at its kill.
