Seeking the AUTHENTIC Prayer Life Jesus Teaches | Matthew 6:5-14 • Sermon on the Mount Jesus is teaching us a genuine and sincere prayer life before God from the heart, by faith. When you pray, you're bringing all your feelings, emotions, worries, cares and needs to God, releasing you from any burden you may be carrying and giving it all to God, in Jesus' name. 1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. *Note: Jeremiah 17:5 (not Luke 23:34) This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in [mankind], who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD. Bible Reading from: Matthew 6:5-14 • Sermon on the Mount. *Jesus teaches us an authentic prayer life before God through faith and love from the heart. Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Always find and make the time to pray - in your room, car, work, on the streets - even in your head when walking, wherever you are or go... Simple things, like: Thank you Father for giving me strength today, thank you for being with me today...thank you for watching over me... I pray for this...I pray for that...in Jesus name. May you continue to strengthen me to do your will... I ask for more wisdom in... Sometimes people might feel guilt and shame, they've allowed other things in their hearts that have taken the place of God in their lives. And so they lose boldness or desire to pray. But listen to this! God loves you, and he is always faithful. He will give you power to overcome through your faith. Give your burdens to God, be open and real with God, and he will love to help you! The Psalmist in the bible kept his deeds from God, and felt a big burden and weight on his shoulders until he finally decided to give them over to God and seek restoration: Psalm 32:3-6: 3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 Day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. 6 Therefore, let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found... God is real, and he will make himself known to those who seek him with all their heart. Start by reading the bible, particularly the Good News about Jesus Christ and his teachings, and let the Creator of heaven and earth and all humanity speak to your heart. Believe and accept the good news about Jesus Christ. (Mark 1:15) 2. Make a decision to surrender your life to him and to live for him. (Luke 9:23-24) 3. Repent and be baptized in water for the forgiveness of your sins. (Acts 2:38) 4. Ask God to receive his gift of the Holy Spirit! (Luke 11:13) You will feel the power of God come upon you! (Acts 1:8). 5. Grow and strengthen your new relationship with God and his son, Jesus Christ, through prayer, worship music, reading your Bible daily and fellowship. Live according to Jesus' teachings and for the will of God - he has plans for your life for his glory!
