Courts Reform Bill: Attorney-General intervenes on a non-partisan basis, says K Shanmugam

Parliament has passed amendments to the civil and criminal justice system. Several MPs brought up concerns about the Attorney-General's right to intervene in court proceedings. Other amendments include simplifying court terminology, as well as setting up a permanent framework for hearings to be conducted remotely. These will help avoid delays to proceedings that would result in additional costs. Speaking on the additional function of the Attorney-General, Law Minister K Shanmugam said it would be a dereliction of duty if the AG did not intervene as a guardian of the public interest.
