Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was a German composer, pianist, and conductor. He composed the Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80 during the summer of 1880 as a tribute to the University of Breslau, which had notified him that it would award him an honorary doctorate in philosophy. Paul Hindemith (1895-1963) was a German / American composer, music theorist, teacher, violist and conductor. He is considered one of the greatest German composers of all time. Adolph Herseth (1921-2013) was principal trumpet in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1948 until 2001, and served as principal trumpet emeritus and conductor from 2001 until his retirement in 2004.
