On January 9, 2016 at 5:16 am Newport News Communications received a shooting in the 1100 block of 23rd Street. Responding officers located a 23 year old Newport News man suffering a gunshot wound to his back. Medics transported the victim to a local area hospital for treatment. We need your help to solve this shooting and bring the guilty to justice.The victim indicated he was walking in the 1100 block of Roanoke Ave. when a light colored Jeep approached him from the rear. Five or six shots were fired and he was struck in the back as the vehicle passed. The victim does not know why anyone would try and shoot at him. There is no suspect information in this shooting.
