This Chancellor advocated a policy, Brexit, that is causing our economy twice as much damage as a global pandemic. So when Rishi Sunak declared that his budget heralded “the age of optimism” any sensible person would take that with a pinch of salt. But so bad is the impact of this first Brexit budget that the head of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, Paul Johnson, declared that the economic situation is “actually awful”. I’d go further. I think that not only did Shifty Sunak totally ignore the biggest global issue - climate change - but that his whole budget is predicated on Tory economic myths.
